A graduate of Princeton University (A.B., 2005), Jennifer studied American and Latin American history, ultimately writing a thesis on gender politics in the American Civil Rights Movement. She first became interested in education during a summer internship at the SEED Public Charter School of Washington, DC, where she witnessed the potential of innovative school models. After graduation, she taught kindergarten at Girls Preparatory Charter School, working with low-income students from New York's Lower East Side. Jennifer joined College Summit in August 2006.
Ivan is a graduate of the University of Washington (B.A. 1999) and Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government (MPP 2002). As an immigrant from Mexico, Ivan has experienced first hand the challenges of transitioning to college. While at the University of Washington Ivan' established a number of leadership development and community service programs for students. Following graduate school, Ivan founded the Public Synergy Group, a consultancy for nonprofit organizations and government agencies. In this capacity, over the past 4 years, he has consulted organizations in the areas of performance management, corporate fundraising and organizational innovation. Ivan joined College Summit in 2006.
Prior to joining College Summit in July of 2007, Emily spent her career in higher educational publishing in Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and New York. Her experience in publishing included roles in sales, sales management, marketing and editorial. In her most recent role as Vice President, Editor in Chief of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Languages division at McGraw-Hill, she managed the editorial department where they signed, developed and published textbooks and online tools for college student use throughout the world. Emily joined College Summit to pursue her keen interest in making a college education accessible to all students.
After taking a public relations course at Texas A&M University, Shaterri knew from then-on-out she wanted to do pr/marketing for non-profit agencies. Throughout her collegiate career, she would visit low-income high schools to promote the necessity of college to their students. She also was a part of the recruitment team at Texas A&M, whose main focus was to increase diversity on their campus, by increasing minority enrollment. After graduation, she wanted to continue to make a difference in the lives of low-income students, who get lost in the shuffle, so she signed up with the Americorps*Vista program and was offered a marketing assistant position with College Summit in 2006. After her year of service with AmeriCorps, Shaterri joined College Summit as a full-time employee. Shaterri graduated from Texas A&M University in May 2006 with a BBA in marketing and international business.
A graduate of Loma Linda University (BBA, 1991) and University of Phoenix, Maryland Campus (MBA, 2001), Harold came to College Summit in May 2006 with a background in higher education finance. Before joining College Summit, Harold served as Business Operations Manager at the Institute for the Psychological Sciences in Arlington, Virginia. Prior to that, he was Director of Finance in the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland, where he still teaches as an adjunct instructor helping adult learners complete their bachelor's degrees. Before working in education finance, he worked in production and sales roles at Phillips Publishing, Inc. in Potomac, Maryland. Being in an educational setting for many years, Harold has always worked to help students embrace the important value of education.
A graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology (B.A., 1998), Julie began her professional career as a graphic designer in Philadelphia working for a few, small marketing and design firms. Looking for a more heart inspiring challenge, she then worked with a playground manufacturer developing and designing a program called Custom Graphics, which inspire imaginary play on the playground. Julie continued on and has worked with a variety of organizations serving our youth, including a National non-profit called KaBOOM!. In 2006 Julie was given the opportunity to join the College Summit team, while residing in PA. With great enthusiasm she hopes to reach out to communities using her design and marketing skills to set forth the mission College Summit.
