News & Events - Deloitte’s Work with College Summit Recognized at White House Ceremony

February 10, 2012 - Deloitte’s Work with College Summit Recognized at White House Ceremony

At an event hosted by the White House on January 5, dedicated to raising awareness for a broad range of initiatives aimed at helping low-income students, Deloitte was recognized by the Corporation for National Service for activities focused on educating and mentoring disadvantaged young people. Deloitte has developed deep relationships with national nonprofits that lead on education, including  College Summit, MENTOR, United Way, and City Year.  Deloitte contributes cash, pro bono service and the time of one-on-one mentors to help young people pursue the education and skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.

President Obama, who joined the group of about 200 attendees, said “America’s young people face record unemployment, and we need to do everything we can to make sure they’ve got the opportunity to earn the skills and a work ethic that come with a job. It’s important for their future, and for America’s.”

Robin Lineberger, who leads Deloitte’s Federal practice and Evan Hochberg, who leads Community Involvement at Deloitte, attended on behalf of Deloitte.

“We’re fortunate to have a corporate culture that cares deeply about our communities and helping young people develop to the best of their potential,” said Lineberger. “This recognition belongs to everyone who mentors, coaches and teaches students through the programs offered by Deloitte. What’s more, our community efforts reflect well on Deloitte, and the impact we are making is being recognized by the top officials in government.”

“Deloitte has a long and dedicated tradition of encouraging and supporting employment and mentoring of young people through a variety of initiatives,” said Hochberg. “It was truly gratifying to see these efforts recognized and appreciated by the Federal government.”

Deloitte formed a multi-year, multi-million dollar relationship with College Summit to ensure high schools understand and can act on college-going outcomes. Through funds and pro bono services, Deloitte has enhanced the ability of College Summit and its partner schools to utilize data to drive performance, and has raised the profile of effective postsecondary data use in schools nationwide.

College Summit congratulates Deloitte on this well-deserved honor.
