News & Events - J.B. Schramm Statement on President’s ESEA Announcement

March 2, 2010 - J.B. Schramm Statement on President’s ESEA Announcement

College Summit applauds President Obama’s announcement of new steps his Administration will take to improve our nation’s high schools. As the President said, all students should have the opportunity to continue on to higher education and career success, and it is critical not only for the students themselves and the lives they are building, but for America’s future as well.

The President’s vision for the successful American high school is what College Summit has seen work when students understand how to navigate the college-going process and see their work in high school as the way to future success.  Particularly, as the President pointed out, high school must be relevant to students. As we’ve heard from school leaders across the country, tools and curriculum won’t work unless the students want it. Students must connect success in high school to future success for higher education to become more than a possibility, but their next step.
