Northern California’s 1st Annual Wall of Honor Contest 2008
Congratulations to EXCEL High School!
Congratulations to OAKLAND High School!
Honorable Mentions go to Oakland Technical High School and Mandela High School.
College Summit Northern California held a regional “Wall of Honor” contest amongst our 14 high schools for the Spring semester with the goal of commemorating the seniors as they apply and/or receive college acceptances as well as supporting college-going culture school wide.
Schools received some College Summit materials before leaving for Winter Break in December 2007, as well as our “Are You Ready?” posters in March, 2008. Schools were not limited to only College Summit materials allowing lots of room to be creative, using any and all college banners, posters, flyers, drawings etc. to their hearts’ content.
Our special guest judge was our Site Support Specialist, Sheldon Maye, fresh from Washington D.C. He zipped from school to school for three days. Of his experience Sheldon stated, “I was thoroughly impressed and excited to meet teachers, principals, and counselors. I enjoyed the high spirits on each campus around supporting college enrollment. I look forward to sharing this experience with other regions.”
Competition was fierce and we truly appreciate all the time, creativity, and pride the schools took in celebrating their seniors and creating a college-going culture in their schools.
Thank you to all the schools who participated: College Preparatory and Architecture Academy, BEST High School, Leadership Preparatory, Castlemont Business & Information Technology School, and East Oakland School of the Arts.
The Northern California College Summit team is already looking forward to next year’s 2nd Annual Wall of Honor Contest.
Best Regards – Felicia, Diedra, Amy & Paul
