“College Summit made my future plans more attainable. I will be the first one in my family to go to college, so I didn’t know anything. I didn’t know I could get money to go to college. I realize now that it’s important to be serious this year so I can get into college.”
-Deonta Gilkey (Central), Peer Leader 06-07
As Deonta starts his senior year at Central, he is committed to going to a four-year college and wants to major in Business Management.
“Before College Summit all I knew was that I wanted to go to college. College Summit has removed a lot of unneeded pressure that I had put on myself about college. I now know how easy it is to receive scholarships, grants, and loans. The workshop was wonderful. I consider it to be one of the best things I’ve experienced in my life.”
-Josh Johnson (Gateway), Peer Leader 06-07
Josh is a senior this fall at Gateway. He has created a list of “probable” schools with his counselor, and has expanded his horizons from schools near St. Louis to include schools nationwide.
“In high school, I played basketball and thought that was my best bet to get to college. When I got hurt, everything changed. I didn’t know if I’d be able to go anymore. After College Summit, I knew I would go. I saw a change at my school, too, noticing people who played around a lot really paying attention in class… trying to learn.”
-Paris Thompson, CS Alumnus and Fellow
After serving in the College Summit St. Louis office as a fellow this summer, Paris is starting her first year at Harris Stowe State University and plans on majoring in Business with an option in Marketing.
