For its first eight years, College Summit ran a summer college-immersion workshop program for a select group of high-potential, academically mid-tier students. During this time, from 1998-2003, College Summit ran 15 workshops for 603 students from the Miami-Dade County area. College partners during that time included: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida A&M, Florida International.
University, Florida State University, Stetson University, University of Florida, University of Miami, University of North Florida, University of South Florida. Instead of working exclusively with schools and districts we partnered with agencies such as ASPIRA of Florida, Inc. and the Miami Museum of Science’s Upward Bound Math & Science Center.

In 2003, at the urging of a high school counselor who witnessed the positive effects workshop students were having on their peers at school, College Summit shifted from a small-group to whole-school model, significantly broadening its approach to help Miami Dade high schools students increase their college enrollment rate by using the summer workshop as one key lever to accomplish that goal.
A program held at two South Florida universities is helping keep teens off the streets during the summer and focused on getting into college.
