Continue your Volunteer Experience!

We have heard from many of you that you would love additional opportunities to support our schools and students during the year. Based on a successful pilot last year, sponsored by Deloitte we will be offering an opportunity to our schools this year to have guests come to the classroom for a day and share about their career paths. Many of our schools are seeking ways to expose students to a variety of career paths and this is a great way to support that need.

What would it involve? Commit to visit at least 1 classroom during either Winter or Spring Career Exploration Week. Winter Week will focus on Juniors and Seniors, while Spring Week will focus on Freshmen and Sophomores. Send your resume and brief summary of your current job position in advance for students to review. Questions will be sent in advance for you to prepare your brief talking points. Be prepared to join a group of 3-6 other volunteers to share your story and answer the students' questions.

When will it take place? We are working with schools over the next few weeks to confirm which dates and classrooms are interested in hosting our volunteers. We expect to have a sign-up sheet ready by the 3^rd of January.   Winter Career Exploration Week will be the 1^st week of February and Spring Career Exploration Week will be in either April or May depending on the school's preference.

Will I get to choose the school where I want to speak? Yes. A sign-up sheet will be sent out and you can indicate your preferences. We will do everything we can to accommodate your choice, while ensuring all schools have volunteers for the slots they request.

Will I get to speak with the students from my writing team? Depending on the school you select there may be students from your writing team in the classroom when you speak. However, you will be speaking to the entire class not just your writing team.

Will there be a training provided? We will provide questions for you to prepare in advance. If requested, we can schedule brief conference calls in January to answer additional volunteer questions.

Can I speak at more than one school? Absolutely!
