Volunteer During Career Week!

Based on a the success of our first Career Week last year, this year we are offering additional opportunities to our schools to have guests come to the classrooms and share about their career and college journeys. Many of our schools are seeking ways to expose students to a variety of career paths, and this is a great way to support that need.

What would it involve? Commit to visit 1 or more classrooms for 1-2 hours. Send your resume and/or a brief summary of your current job position in advance for students to review. Sample questions will be sent in advance for you to prepare your brief talking points. Be prepared to join a group of 3-6 other volunteers to share your story and answer the students' questions.

When will it take place? Career Week will take place March 18th-22nd. Panel sessions take place during the school day in the classrooms.

Will I get to choose the school where I want to speak? Yes. A sign-up sheet is available for Career Week, where you can choose your preferences. We will do everything we can to accommodate your choice, while ensuring all schools have volunteers for the slots they request.

Will there be a training provided? We will provide questions for you to prepare in advance. If requested, we can schedule brief conference calls to answer additional volunteer questions.

Can I speak at more than one school/session? Absolutely! Sign up for as many sessions or schools as you are able to do.

Can I invite friends and contacts to participate? Please do! The more professionals and types of careers our students are exposed to, the better. Please feel free to pass on this information.

Will I get to speak with the students from my summer writing team? Depending on the school you select there may be students from your summer workshop writing team in the classroom when you speak. However, you will be speaking to the entire class not just your writing team.

Next Steps: Email Arielle Lynch at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to confirm your interest. She will then send you the sign-up sheet with session times. Let her know which dates and times you have selected. Slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

"The students were not the only ones to benefit and make new connections, but the teachers and staff in the room were engaged as well. It was amazing to see how intrigued both the students and staff were to hear about the volunteers' educational and professional journeys." - Career Week Volunteer
