NCR Hosts Peer Leader Conferences with Help of Community Partners

On October 26th and 28th College Summit-NCR hosted two Peer Leader Conferences with the assistance of community partners, including Largo High School, Deloitte’s Black Employee Network, Target, Howard University School of Business, Wide Angle Youth Media, Next Generation Foundation, and Mrs. Maryland International 2009.

NCR Peer Leader Introduces President Obama

On September 8, President Barack Obama delivered an inspirational back to school speech to the nation’s students at College Summit-National Capital Region’s partner school Wakefield High in Arlington, VA.  He was skillfully introduced by Wakefield Peer Leader Timothy Spicer.

NCR Alumni Leader Antoine Tate Gives Back
In 2007, Antoine Tate was a rising senior and Peer Leader at Crossland High School. Two years later, he is a successful rising sophomore at Penn State and a College Summit-NCR Workshop Alumni Leader.

NCR 2009 Summer Workshop Season

During Summer 2009, College Summit-NCR hosted 8 workshops where over 200 volunteers and staff led over 400 Peer Leaders through the college application process.

NCR Celebrates Deloitte IMPACT Day at Largo High

In the National Capital Region, ten Deloitte employees spent IMPACT Day leading a workshop on Creating Effective Leaders for a group of 30 11th grade students from College Summit-NCR partner, Largo High School. These students will attend a College Summit Workshop this summer and return to their school in the fall as Peer Leaders, responsible for leading and promoting college-going culture.

On May 1, 2009, College Summit-NCR held its 3rd Annual Awards Ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of its 23 2008-2009 partner schools, and their educators, students and Peer Leaders, towards strengthening college-going culture in their schools and communities.

NCR Peer Leaders Attend Vital Voices Awards

On March 19, 2009 Vital Voices Global Partnership gathered over 1,000 guests at the Kennedy Center to celebrate women improving our world at the 2009 Global Leadership Awards. The benefit honored courageous women leaders who have overcome poverty, human trafficking, violence against women and other forms of discrimination to promote positive change in their communities. Among the guests were four extraordinary young women- College Summit-NCR Peer Leaders Modupe Oke from Largo High School, Mariah Edwards from Flowers High School, Huda Ibrahim from Wakefield High School, and Simone Williams from Oxen Hill High School.

NCR Peer Leaders Host St. Louis Peer Leaders

The Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C. brought together College Summit staff, Peer Leaders, Alumni and friends from across the country for an Alumni Reunion and Celebration. On January 21st, a group of St. Louis, MO Peer Leaders visited College Summit-NCR partner Duval High School in Lanham, MD.
