Meet the 2010 NCR James Dyke Scholarship Winners
Jim Dyke has served on College Summit-NCR’s Regional Advisory Board as Board Chair and as a member for over four years. In honor of Jim’s service as NCR’s founding Board Chair, College Summit-NCR has created the James V. Dyke Scholarship which was presented for the first time in 2010 to two deserving students. This scholarship is to be used for books and supplies during these students’ first year of college.

Brittany Alexis Peters- Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA
Brittany is an outstanding student who is recognized by her teachers and peers as a self-assured and highly disciplined leader. She has excelled in and outside of high school through her engagement with the AFJROTC and has received several awards and achievements including, Military Order of World Wars, Air Force Association, Outstanding Cadet and Distinguish Cadet. She has attended several summer retreats, including the Aerospace and Technology Honors Camp in Oklahoma and the Air Force Academy Diversity Program.
Brittany’s other achievements and scholarly awards have included the MLK Jr. Writing Contest, American Legion Scholastic Excellence Award, Principal Honor Roll, Standard in Character and Academics, and the Star Scholarship Award. She has a 3.8 GPA and was accepted at Mary Baldwin College where she earned the Augusta Scholarship of $11,500 per year; Coe College where she is the recipient of a $54K Daniel Coe Scholarship; and she was accepted to Davis & Elkins College, the University of South Florida, the University of Oklahoma. She is a recipient of the Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award of $1,500, and was nominated by U.S. Congressman James Moran for Air Force Academy.
Stephanie Ihejirika- Largo High School in Prince George’s County, MD
Stephanie’s peers and teachers acknowledge her willingness to work hard and her sincere determination to succeed. She has challenged herself to take the most difficult classes offered and currently ranks in the top 5% of her graduating class. It is her dream to become a genetic engineer and to identify ways to eliminate genetic diseases.
Stephanie is active in various sports, school clubs, and community activities, including being Captain of the Largo Volleyball team, President of the school’s National Honor Society, and Secretary of the Key Club. Additionally, she is the Co-Founder of Largo’s Freshmen Mentoring Program. The goal of the Freshman Mentoring Program is to provide 9th grade students a seamless transition from middle school to high school with support from the senior students. The focus is academics, goal setting and time management. In the inaugural year, the program included 40 senior mentors and 60 9th grade mentees. Stephanie has a 3.9 GPA and was accepted to the University of Maryland- Honors College, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
