On November 19, 2009, College Summit-National Capital Region partner high school Largo High School was featured in the Prince George’s County Gazette for its work building college going culture. The school, led by its active group of Peer Leader, initiated College Going Culture Month, as part of its College Summit Are You Ready? campaign. The month-long activities included a college application week and motivational guest speakers, including Largo alumni.
Largo High is a 2009 recipient of the Deloitte-College Summit College Going Culture Award, and is the only school in Prince George’s County with a college application week. One of the goals of Largo’s college application week is that all seniors will submit three college applications by the end of week, with the goal of 750 applications being sent- an increase over last year’s 500 applications sent.
“We’re upping the ante”, said Dr. Leelannee Malin, Largo High’s College Summit and Testing Coordinator, who estimates about 85 percent of the senior class’ 336 students participate in the College Summit program.
