There will be 50 rising high school seniors representing 10 South Carolina high schools that will need great volunteer Writing Coaches to help them draft a personal statement/essay. This personal statement can be used for college admissions and scholarship applications. Writing Coaches participate in a 4-hour training session the day before the Summer Workshop. Each Writing Coach will oversee a class of 4-6 students. College Summit staff and other volunteers will assist Writing Coaches, as needed, in the classroom.
When: Summer 2012 Exact Dates TBA
Volunteers are expected to be present for the duration of the workshop, which takes place Thursday through Sunday afternoon.Campus housing and meals are provided free of charge to volunteers.
Where: On a South Carolina College Campus (Locations to be announced)
Why: Workshops are designed to inspire students to be change agents in their respective high school by motivating their peers to stay on the college path. At each workshop, rising seniors receive intensive training in navigating the college admissions process, writing a compelling personal statement, developing a well-matched college list, learning about financial aid options and completing a common college application.
