Systemic and Scaleable
The education field has seen many excellent examples of programs that dedicate significant resources to a small number of students and achieve great results. While excellent at small scale, those efforts cannot help communities tackle systemic problems faced by all students.
College Summit helps communities tackle college access systemically by building the capacity of high schools and school districts to enroll more of their students in college. For three years in a row, College Summit has increased college enrollment among low-income students while decreasing the cost per student.
We have learned that:
- The right tools make all the difference. Public schools, even those in the most under-resourced communities, have consistently increased college-going for their students.
- The numbers make sense. It is much less expensive to work through the existing teaching and counseling infrastructure of the schools.
- The impact lasts. By helping schools and districts build accountability, measurement, professional development and curricular infrastructure, students benefit from higher quality support over the long-term.
College Summit helps communities tackle college access at scale. The College Summit strategy shares costs across multiple stakeholders:
- High schools pay affordable fees for curriculum, support and training.
- Colleges provide in-kind support by hosting student and teacher trainings
- Community and philanthropic leaders match the school commitments, underwrite special initiatives, and fund national infrastructure development.
College Summit invests in systems that will work for all of our partner school districts as we grow to serve tens of thousands of students each year. We are committed to systems that will grow with us
