People from all walks of life have been successful Writing Coaches. During four intense days, you will help a group of very talented young people share their stories and change their lives. The Writing Coach works with a group of 4 – 6 students to craft a personal statement that becomes the centerpiece of each participant’s college application.
Role Snapshot
- You will spend four days (and three nights) on a college campus- Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon
- You will have your own dorm room
- Meals are provided
- You will receive on-site training in College Summit’s Interactive Writing Curriculum by a College Summit Writing Coach Coordinator
- The workshop is often an intense and rewarding emotional experience
- As a nonprofit, College Summit strives to limit costs in order to direct as much support as possible towards students. Although writing coach is a volunteer role, and therefore is not paid, writing coaches can apply for a limited stipend to cover travel and incidentals incurred as a result of the workshop.
Qualifications
- You DO NOT have to be a writer or have teaching experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Good facilitation, communication and active listening skills
- Experience and/or willingness to work with diverse populations
- Desire to make a difference
- Flexibility
